Batelco, the telecom services provider in Bahrain, is offering free incoming calls for its mobile subscribers on selected Gulf Air flights until the end of July. Batelco’s customers can also make calls, send SMS’s and use data at competitive rates during the month.

With Skyhub, Gulf Air’s passengers will reportedly be able to use their own portable electronic devices including laptops, mobile phones, smartphones and PDAs (personal digital assistants) as well as the airlines’ in-seat equipment, to communicate in flight, just as they do on the ground

In-flight roaming is reportedly made possible due to the launch of Skyhub by Gulf Air. Travellers on Gulf Air can stay connected using their mobiles, watch live TV or chat and browse the web using high-tech internet.

The in-flight communications service reportedly continues to grow in popularity fuelled by the advancements in technology and also driven by customers’ demands to be connected to their head office, family and friends 24/7, said Batelco Group general manager media relations Ahmed Al Janahi.

“We live in a rapidly changing world due to the evolution of technologies that enable always-on telecommunication with each other,” he added.

With Skyhub, Gulf Air’s passengers will be able to use their own portable electronic devices including laptops, mobile phones, smartphones and PDAs (personal digital assistants) as well as the airlines’ in-seat equipment, to communicate in flight, just as they do on the ground.

These services are currently available on select Gulf Air routes and it is anticipated that the service will be extended to more destinations in the near future, Batelco said in a statement.
