Inmarsat Maritime launches Fleet One

Broadband service to provide smaller vessels with connectivity offered to large ships

Inmarsat Maritime has launched the Fleet One service, giving yacht and fishing boat owners access to the same broadband services that larger vessels have. Fleet One enables vessel owners to have uninterrupted internet access and the ability to send SMS messages and have phone conversations onboard.

“We have all become accustomed to having access to information as and when we need it. Being at sea is a unique experience and conditions can change at the drop of a hat. This shouldn’t hamper your ability to remain connected to the world. With this new solution you will have dependable connectivity whenever you need it,” says Frank Coles, President of Inmarsat Maritime.

“With Fleet One, yachts and fishing boats now have access to the same, robust and reliable technologies previously only available on much larger vessels, allowing them equally to take full advantage of online connectivity.”

The Fleet One service is delivered through a small terminal about 2.5kg in weight. It offers data connectivity up to 100 Kbps, a single voice line and SMS capabilities. The service also supports Inmarsat’s 505 safety service, which routes directly to a Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in an emergency with your position and nature of distress.
